At CeBIT today TomTom have released details of a completely new range of GO GPS Navigation systems. Due to hit retailers from mid april these represent a major update to the popular navigation system.There are three models in the range: an entry level GO 300, a mid range GO 500 and the flagship GO 700. All these devices share a common software platform which will be available for existing GO users.for the PocketGPSWorld.com review of the new TomTom GO 5. The review is based on the original GO and does not include the features of the new GO hardware range.All of the new GO navigation systems feature Bluetooth and are tightly coupled with mobile phones. We have prepared an article describing the features of.TomTom GO 300Starting at the bottom of the range the TomTom GO 300 is very similar to the current TomTom GO the main addition is Bluetooth. This allows the GO 300 to be connected to a mobile phone to take advantage of features, including TomTom Traffic.The GO 300 is based on a 200MHz processor with 32Mb of system memory.Looking at the images provided the windscreen mount has been modified.
Hopefully this will be an improvement on the original one.Interestingly TomTom have really cut costs on this model as it doesn't come with a mains adapter, not that it is required. It also lacks ASN which is present on the current GO.TomTom GO 500The next model in the range is the TomTom GO 500.
2006The TomTom GO 300 has been out for quite some time and we haven’t talked much about it recently. However lots of retailers are still offering it for sale, and at some great prices. In fact, some retailers are now offering it for about $399.
At that price, grab two! П™‚ So what do you get with the TomTom 300?The 300 comes with an SD card, preloaded with maps of the USA. There is also an SD card to cover Canada. Bluetooth comes with the device enabling a data connection to TomTom PLUS services. The 12 channel GPS might not work extremely well near skyscrapers, however it should work perfectly well in most driving conditions.A 3.5 inch touch screen display powers the GPS which can display 4096 colors at 320×240 resolution.There are no advanced features on the TomTom GO 300 like text to speech, or hands free calling, but this is a very solid, basic GPS receiver.
You get an SD card containing the map data, screen cloth, carry case, AC adapter, car charger, USB cable, and a suction mount for your car. All in all a great device which is now going for a tiny price. The Magellan RoadMate 760 has been reviewed by pc magazine.
The 760 looks identical to the RoadMate 700 however the newer model has many advantages. They really liked the new Smart Detour feature and text-to-speech capabilities. They also remarked on the verbal announcement of full street names an categorized points of interest (POIs).

They didn’t like the lack of a 3D map view and they thought the interface was more difficult to learn than other GPS systems. Viewing the field as a whole, we still consider the Lowrance iWAY 500C a better device, and it’s available for significantly less money. The TomTom Go 700 and TomTom Go 300 have routing capabilities similar to the 760’s, as well as simpler and extremely intuitive interfaces. You must, however, rely on SD cards with these models (remember, the 760 has a hard drive), which means you may have to load additional map data for new locations.
